#artistiperstigliano

International printmaking centre Opificio della Rosa is raising funds to support the community of Stigliano, a village of 4000 inhabitants in the province of Matera in southern Italy, by purchasing healthcare supplies to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
We believe that everyone must contribute as far as possible to the common good, especially in times of emergency like the present one.

Accordingly, a growing number of artists affiliated or connected to the Opificio della Rosa are making works available for auction, from very low asking prices. The income will be used to buy protective equipment and healthcare supplies.

Why Stigliano? At the Opificio della Rosa, we had been developing a project in collaboration with appARTEngo, an arts collective from this small town in the mountains of Basilicata: at the onset of the Covid-19 emergency, they told us about the lack of the healthcare supplies required  to put in place basic preventive measures against  the spread of the virus (eg. masks, sanitising gel, etc).

The Opificio della Rosa immediately mobilized in response to this: the initial sum collected was €1,800, which enabled the purchase of 1000 surgical masks to be dispatched to Stigliano on April 6.
The washable masks were made in Romagna by companies converted to face the emergency.
The Municipality of Stigliano has begun a collaboration with groups of voluntary workers to organize distribution and raise awareness among citizens.

How does the auction work?
The Opificio della Rosa’s FB page (https://www.facebook.com/Opificio-della-Rosa-1696840667251135/) will display all works being auctioned. Bidding is expected to take place over 48 hours, via the ‘comments’ section. Bids will be registered in chronological order.
At the end of the auction, each work will be assigned to the highest bidder. Payment is via bank transfer to Comune di Stigliano (IBAN: IT80E0538780460000008008604). Please quote: ‘Artistiperstigliano’ identifying references for the work.
Each work will be sent directly by its author: please be aware that in some cases it will not be possible to do this before the end of the emergency.

Every day we will update our FB page with details of further developments, funds raised, action ‘on site’ in Stigliano, etc.

We thank you for any help you can give to support and share the project!

The Opificio della Rosa is a non-profit organization dedicated to low environmental impact techniques whilst facilitating traditional and innovative methods of printmaking: the woodcut, the intaglio, to the most innovative printmaking techniques.
Technical experimentation and interdisciplinary work that ties printmaking with other artistic fields are encouraged, this also through a program of artistic residencies, summer workshops and collaborative projects are developed each year involving artists internationally.
The Opificio della Rosa, born in 2009 around the homonymous workshop in Montefiore Conca, is now joined by a new studio in Morciano di Romagna dedicated to letterpress.
The association is working on specific projects with Anonima Impressori – Bologna, Luigi Castiglioni – Rimini, Atelier InSigna – Rome.
